Autism:Article:CHAT

The Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (CHAT) should be completed at your child’s 18 month old visit to screen for autism.  The following section should be completed by the parent of the child.  If you answer “No” to two/more of the following questions, an autism spectrum disorder should be suspected and immediately brought to your provider’s attention. 

Questions for Parents…
YES/NO     Does your child enjoy being swung, bounced on your knee?
YES/NO     Does your child take an interest in other children?
YES/NO     Does your child like climbing on things, e.g. chairs?
YES/NO     Does your child enjoy playing peek-a-boo / hide & seek?
YES/NO     Does your child ever pretend play?
YES/NO     Does your child ever point to ask for something?
YES/NO     Does your child ever point to indicate interest in something?
YES/NO     Does your child mouth, fiddle, or drop small toys? 
YES/NO     Does your child ever bring objects over to you (the parent) to show your something?
