Have you talked to them about why they are engaging in the behavior? Take some time to look at the events surrounding the behavior. For example, what happens before and what happens afterwards. This will yield some clues as to what the behaviors function is and then how to go about addressing it. It could be happening as the resulting from fear/anxiety in social situations, attention from you, escape from undesirable situations, etc.
