I decided to write about that because I am concerned. I am a mother of sweet girl who seems happy.Nighttime does not seem prove that. She mostly 4 times per week is awake crying. She has bad dreams about monsters and animals. What does make her to have that kind of dreams?? Is everything ok? Do I have to talk about that with specialist?

Nightmares can definitley be challenging for the whole family - not only because your child is upset, but usually because no one gets any sleep.

Do they occur at the same time every night?
How does she usually go back to sleep?
Are these new or have they been occuring for a while?

The best bet is a behavioral assessment to determine exactly WHY they are happening and what should be done about them.

Along with the behavioral assessment I would suggest keeping track of what types of foods she eats relatively close to bed time, within 30 mins to 1 hour before bedtime.  Certein foods close to bedtime may trigger increased brain wave activity that generates nightmares.

Pretty interesting Claudia.  Do you have any links or articles on the topic?  I would love to put more information on the site in regards to that.  Thanks!

Searching for more, I read about in one of my psychology classes, but finding the book that had it will be a bit of a challenge.  Here is one site for the time being ^^

I'm still searching high and low for anything related here,

more detailed and specific definition, description, cause, and diagnosis of night terrors, sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between nightmares and night terrors..

This link  has a section that mentions some known medications that cause nightmares and detail information about nightmares.

This link offers a list of 203 medications that can cause nightmares, as well as general information.
