Negative Emotions and Homework Don't Mix

Just like our children with their homework when we find things challenging, we get frustrated.  We are often challanged when he feel unable to help our children handle their emotions.  However, we can help by keeping negative emotions out of these situations.

Our Expert Tip: Instead of trying to control your child's level of frustration, focus on controlling your own.  If you feel yourself, getting frustrated simply walk away, do something else, and most importantly, keep your negative emotions out of your child's homework.  You must learn to teach by example.  Do not reinforce their negative behavior by engaging it, for no one can listen when they are frustrated.  Instead, spend the time teaching them ways they can calm down and regain their focus.  Then, when both of you are ready you can try the homework thing again.
