The following exercise may help a child prepare for social situations in which saying something nice or paying a peer a compliment would be appropriate.  Instructions:  1. Walk the child through each scenario and discuss something they could say in each situation ("I like that" or "Awesome")  2. For visual learners, you can provide graphics or have the student help you create representations of the scene  3.  After the exercise is complete, conduct role plays of similar scenarios.

  1. A peer says: “Look!  I just finished my project.”
The child could respond by saying?

  2. A peer says: “Sally is so mean.  Let’s not let her play in our game!”
The child could respond by saying?

  3. A peer says: “I just won the game!  That is two times in a row.”
The child could respond by saying or doing?

  4. A peer says: “My mom just bought me a new video game.”
The child could respond by saying?

  5. A peer just finished unwrapping their birthday present.
The child could respond by saying?
