Our Expert Tip:

Suggestions for preparing the bathroom environment for potty training:

  • Modified Toilet Seats – These will allow your child to sit comfortably and not fear falling in.
  • Stepping Stool – If your child struggles with bowl movements, one in which they can push against may assist.
  • Rid Distractions – Remove picture, bath toys, etc. You want your child to be able to focus on the task at hand.
  • Remove Potential Hazards – Remove items on low shelves or the toilet basin that are breakable or flushable.
  • Create Privacy – Put a sign on the door that they can flip to let others know it is occupied.
  • Adjust Lighting – Put a pull cord on the switch so they can turn on/off the lights.
  • Items to Reduce Anxiety – Remember children are sensitive and things like a cold floor or seat can make it an uncomfortable experience.
