Aggressive Behavior in 5 yr old adopted daughter

My daughter is now five. I adopted her almost 2 yrs ago. Now she is diagnosed ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, OCD,ODD and RAD. She has become so aggressive that I had to remove her from her EC classroom at school, they could not handle her. I left my job last Sept and have been staying home with her. Does anyone know how I am suppose to survive now as a single parent? Any suggestions on how to handle meltdowns in public? Does anyone have a behavior chart at home, tell me how you help your child learn to control some of the behaviors. My child constantly tells me to shush, or wants to be left alone in her room with the tv for an hour or so, is this ok? Thank you for helping!

Are you receiving any help whatsoever? Are there any intervention being applied along with those diagnoses? Aggressive behaviors are not something that should be ignored. I would recommend contacting a qualified Behavior Analyst for an initial assessment and recommendations where to proceed from there. You can find a board certified behavior analyst in your area by going to www.bacb.com and looking in their certificant directory.

I have a 5 year old who has always been very shy. We have noticed in the last couple of weeks when we try and get him engaged in any type of social interaction he really fights us over it and is now starting to throw a tantrum whenever we 'force' him to say hello or play with another kid.

Have you talked to them about why they are engaging in the behavior? Take some time to look at the events surrounding the behavior. For example, what happens before and what happens afterwards. This will yield some clues as to what the behaviors function is and then how to go about addressing it. It could be happening as the resulting from fear/anxiety in social situations, attention from you, escape from undesirable situations, etc.
