Are your kids about to drive you “No - Not Now - Make Me – Later – Why - Ugh” crazy?  Noncompliant behavior causes a tremendous amount of stress for both parents and teachers.  Parents often feel like they have to scream and make irrational threats to get their children to listen.  At the same time, teachers end up spending all of their time trying to get one student to finish their assignments, while ignoring the rest of their class.

The problem is that after awhile screaming and threats no longer work.  They may actually serve to increase the child’s noncompliant behavior.  As a parent or teacher you expect a child to do what you ask them, for at least a portion of the time.  However, when they respond with a big “no” or “make me” it can make you feel totally helpless.  The first step to treating non-compliant/resistant behavior is to obtain an understanding of how it functions.
