Common Questions

Why is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) one of the best method of treatment for self-injurious behavior?

The principals of ABA are used in our programs to not only devise intervention plans for severe problematic behaviors, but also address skill deficits.  In other words, your plan of action will not only include a strategy for reducing the SIB, but a plan to teach more appropriate alternatives.  For example, the child who bangs their head during a tantrum will be taught to appropriately communicate/manage their feelings of frustration.  This could be through the creation of a feelings chart or a “safe space” for them to calm down.
